Unlike many other classes, you will have two tutors working together to help with your painting. Justin and Nicola Cooke are both professional artists who exhibit throughout the U.K.

You can find out more about them on the About Page, where you will also find a link to their own websites should you wish to find out more about their work and exhibitions.

Everything is provided, (all different paints, acrylics/watercolours etc. lots of different kinds of paper, brushes, pastels, ink and charcoal etc. There is a large table full of materials you are free to use). We have tried to think of anything that people might want to have a go with, from masking fluid to bamboo dipping pens. There are a lot of resources so there is no need to bring anything unless perhaps you have a favourite brush.

We have studio easels and table top easels  for everyone; should you wish to stand or sit (or both). For any outdoor classes we do, we have new sketching easels as well.

"We demonstrate everything we do, so you can see the methods first hand. It is the sort of set up I had when I studied and is a great way to learn".

  Justin Cooke

You can use the drop-down on the menue bar above to find out more about particular classes; or you can find out about current classes

As well as our special weekend and day workshops, we also run weekly classes for people for all levels of experience. Regular classes are held at Upwey Old School.

It's not just the venue...

Upwey is a delightful village situated between Weymouth and Dorchester. It is surrounded by beautiful countryside, not least the wonderful landscape of the South Dorset Ridgeway.

There could not be a better place to hold our classes than The Old Village School. A listed building, it has been refurbished with all the facilities we could need, yet still retains all the features; the vaulted roof, the large windows, the Victorian classroom scale that ensure it still has character and charm.

But it's not just the venue that's important; it's what we have created for our classes inside. Care has been taken to provide everything needed to transform what would otherwise be an empty space into a proper Art School Studio. So that when you come to  a class you step not just into  an old village school, but into a true Art School Experience.

Ask anyone who has been to a class or come on a workshop and the first thing they may mention is the cakes, tea and coffee.

We realise that all artists need the best coffee,  tea, cakes and biscuits. So there are always a good supply for our coffee breaks, and yes, the cakes and biscuits are hand made for each class. So whether it is Apricot and Almond Cookies, Triple Chocolate Cakes or Pecan and Maple Flap-Jacks; you are sure to find a favourite. Just remembered the Hazelnut Chocolate Brownies... and the Lemon Cake...mmm

it's different every week and some of us look forward to it quite alot!

Coffee is freshly made in a caffetier. Teas are; Earl Grey, Green Tea, Camomile, de-caff and regular normal tea. We also have Green and Blacks Drinking Chocolate and lots of people love the Pukka Vanilla Chai. Everything is included in the class price and you can top up as much as you want.

Did we mention the cakes, tea and coffee!
